I was trying to see what I could do with an 85mm lens this week. Here, I wanted to try to get space that wasn't flat. In the area I was in, and with the lighting setup I had, I wasn't able to get deep space, but I think I did a decent job of capturing limited space. It's interesting that the shallow depth of field doesn't seem as detrimental for limited space as it does for deep space. Obviously, the depth would feel stronger with deeper focus, but in this case, it doesn't ruin it.
In this photo, I wanted to see if I could counteract the draw of the very light portion of the image and keep your attention focused on what it's supposed to be focused on. I think I did a decent job. I relied on line, as created by the arm and face, as well as on putting the subject of the photo right next to the light part of the image.
Here, I like the emotion set by the bokeh due to their color and shape. This photo gives off a sense of childlike warmth, which fits well with the Christmas-themed objects in the image.
