Photos Ten

I am not used to just accepting noncoincidence of tone, or working with it in my photography, so I'm happy with how this one turned out. It is obviously posed and very stylized, but in the case of how much information we're getting from the faces, I think that's okay here. The symmetry and rhythm of this image is also interesting and important, as is the interesting use of line based on the fact that their eyelines are on the same horizontal line, but are looking away from each other.

This image is primarily interesting to me because of its dynamic use of nearly horizontal lines. There are a lot of lines that kind of point to the subject's face. However, all of these lines are different--the mountains, the cracks on the windshield, the road lines, and the horizon line. None of them are of the same quality or straightness, so although they are all primarily horizontal, there is a lot of contrast and dynamism created by them. I also like the limited range of tone in this image. The area of street that is lit up by the car's headlights is a bit lighter than I would like, but other than that this image mostly contains blacks and shades near the middle range of the spectrum.

This is a bizarre image that, in my opinion, honestly isn't very cinematic. It is nearly ambiguous space, but I don't think it's very hard to figure out what it is, making it not quite ambiguous. As such, being in between ambiguous and flat space, it is hard to tell what it's purpose could be. Additionally, it doesn't seem to be about anything. However, I chose it because I really like the way it looks and feels as an overall composition. It is very unique. It uses line, color, and space in an interesting way that evokes an emotion for me. Unfortunately, I'm just not sure how it could fit into a narrative.

  1. These photos are really interesting. I really like the first one the most to be honest. I like how you divided the space with the window frame, that adds so much to the picture. I also really like that they are striking the same pose in opposite directions. It's almost symmetrical. The one in the car is really interesting. I really like the lighting and how we can see the car's lights shining on the road. Your last picture is actually a really interesting perspective that plays with shape and color. If you took out the object in the top right corner, I think it would make your composition stronger. (Remember to always check your edges.)
