Photos Two

I like this shot because of the contrast between the temple and the dumpster. They obviously have different subject matter. There are a couple of design elements which also draw attention to this. Primarily, the line (created by the stucco/stone wall) that essentially divides the setting of the temple from the temple of the dumpster. This separates them and invites acknowledgment that they are in different spaces. Additionally, their backgrounds contrast--the temple is on a blue background, the dumpster is on an orange one.

This photo primarily demonstrates affinity. Because of the backlighting, the subject appears to have hardly any color definition that contrasts with the room. Instead, she feels like a part of the mundaneness of it. Additionally, there is affinity between the blinds and their reflection on the computer screen. This helps balance the photo and encourages a little bit of eye movement from the viewer.

I think there is a lot of affinity of shape and color in the building. Everything is some sort of rectangle that matches the shape of another rectangle somewhere, and it has a very limited palette. It seems pretty cohesive. Other than that, however, I'm not sure there's a lot going on in this one.

  1. I really like these photos. I think your contrast of subject matter between the temple and dumpster is unique and dynamic. Both the lines and colors in the photo keep me interested. The second photo is probably my favorite. The colors are beautiful in their soft similarity, but the light from the window and on the computer screen make it interesting. Just as you mentioned, they seem to guide the eye. The final photo is also a great example of affinity, successfully illustrating the point.
